Throughout the year the museum offers a free programme of demonstrations to visitors where, in quick and easy to follow steps, the whole family can learn simple drawing techniques. You will be amazed how rapidly your drawing skills will improve.

Family fun days are all about kids with quiz trails around the museum, drawing competitions and creative things to make & do in the Kid’s Art Studio. Hosted by museum staff or professional art practitioners.

The Derwent tuition workshops are run by professional artists and are a great way to improve your drawing techniques or try out a new type of media or drawing style. They are a fun day out with the opportunity to discuss and practice drawing with your colleagues and the tutor in a relaxed and informal atmosphere. Workshops are suitable for beginners and intermediate levels and run from 10.30am to 4.30pm. All materials that are needed for the tuition are supplied along with complimentary tea, coffee and afternoon treats. The fee for the full days tuition is £40, and pre-booking is essential. Please call the museum on 017687 73626 to book a workshop place. Places are limited to 10 persons per workshop. A discount of 10% is offered if two or more workshops are booked at any one time.
